The Tax Refund Company has just one goal
To make sure employees on PAYE get back any money owed to them by HM Revenue. Our refunds range from a few £ 's, to as much as £14,974.23
Why would HM Revenue owe me money?
Your employer uses a tax code to work out how much tax to take off your wages. HM Revenue gives your employer that tax code. The problem is if the code is wrong, even for just 1 month in the last 4 years, your employer could have taken too much tax off you. The rules say it’s up to you to make sure your tax code is right, not your employer.
Having checked the tax codes of over 2.2 million people, we know that in the last 4 years, nearly 32% of employees have been given the wrong tax code and paid too much tax.
Why would I be given the wrong tax code?
Reason 1 - HM Revenue may have made a mistake.
Reason 2 - You didn’t know there were tax allowances you may have been able to use in the last 4 years to reduce the tax you had to pay. If you didn’t know about them, you couldn’t tell HM Revenue to change your tax code. As a result, they gave your employer the wrong code.
The problem you face now is unless you know how to check you paid the right amount of tax in each of the last 4 years, any tax you have over paid is going to stay in HM Revenue’s bank account, instead of yours!
HM Revenue also gives you a deadline to put in a claim to get your money back. If you miss that deadline, they get to keep your money.
What is the chance I am due a tax refund?
If you can answer YES to any of these questions, there’s a 1 in 3 chance HM Revenue has some of your money. In the last 4 years, have you…
- Paid income tax?
- Had more than one job?
- Paid subscriptions to a professional organisation?
- Used your own car as part of your job?
- Had to work from home some, or all of the time?
- Had to provide tools for your job?
- Had to launder workwear provided by your employer?
- Received more than one tax code in a tax year?
How do I find out if I'm owed some money?
Our tax refund service will ask you some questions that tell us if you have paid the right amount of tax. Even if you can’t answer all the questions, in most cases, we’re still able to complete the review of your tax.
If we believe you’ve paid too much tax, we’ll put in a claim to HM Revenue and ask for your money back. This may take a while as HM Revenue might not agree with us at first. However, we are PAYE tax experts, so if you’re owed some money, we will get it back for you. If we don’t get you any money back, our service is absolutely FREE.

If you are using the wrong tax code when you apply for our service, we will also arrange a new code for you. Any money you save using your new tax code is all yours. You will not have to pay us anything from these future savings.
