2004/05 tax year loss – Claim now before you lose the right

Did you know the time limit for claiming a tax refund is being reduced?

Under the current rules, you can claim back overpaid tax for up to 5 years and 10 months from the end of a tax year in which you paid too much tax. This means that to claim back tax from the 2003/04 tax year you must make the claim for refund by 31st January 2011.

Most people believe H M Revenue automatically sends them a refund if they have paid too much tax, or they believe that because they are employed, their employer automatically deducts the correct amount of tax from their wages or salaries.

Unfortunately this is not the case and since 1993, the Tax Refund Company has helped thousands of individuals to recover tax refunds they never knew they were due. Our average refund is over £200.

There are many different reasons for paying too much tax and most individuals who are paying or have paid too much tax are totally unaware they have done so. A couple of examples include:-

  • Failing to claim tax relief for cleaning uniforms.
  • Failing to claim tax relief available for qualifying professional subscriptions.
  • Changing jobs during the year and failing to notice an emergency tax code being used by your new employer.
  • Paying tax on savings income when little or no other taxable income is being received.

If you think you think you might be missing out, then claim now before you lose the right.
